Raguet family papers, 1835-1918.

Correspondence, legal documents, financial documents, and printed material. Many of the papers relate to Henry Raguet (1796-1877), merchant and landowner, of Nacogdoches, Tex., including Mexican government documents dealing with Texas land transactions, official and personal records documenting other land related activities, and letters from other family members. Includes material relating to Raguet's children, including Charles M. Raguet (1832-1903), Henry W. Raguet (1824-1862), and James Condy Raguet (1822-1868), and bills, receipts, and other materials, relating to Susan Wroe Edwards Thorn (1800-1891), and her husbands, Frost Thorn (1793-1854) and James F. Thorn (d. 1876).

Henry Raguet (1796-1877) was born in Pennsylvania. After serving in the War of 1812, he moved with his wife, Marcia Ann Towers, to Cincinnati, Ohio and set up a business. After going bankrupt, he met Sam Houston and John Durst in New Orleans and took a trip with them to Texas, which induced him to move there. He and his wife settled in Nacogdoches, where ha and William G. Logan, a Mississippi immigrant, set up the mercantile firm of Logan and Raguet. Raguet went on to serve as treasurer and then...
